CeBIT 2014 is under way in Hanover Germany. I am expecting a plethora of wearable technology. Your usual flashy demo flat screens, the comfy sofas, free handouts and the smaller side table exhibitors showing their new gadgets are all part of the gigantic show called CeBIT.

Finally there is a CeBIT that allows the crowds to hold and feel new products. In past shows the rage were the Apps on smartphones and the ever popular 3D video games. The show displays were rows of iPhones and Samsung Galaxys to try out the new Apps. In the Gaming area it was a bank of controllers to play the games. Now you can actually lift and put a wrist band watch on. For security pruposes at the show the data you see on the watch is a demo. Once you sync the watch with your smartphone data will flow to the watch, as well as answering calls and voice commands.

Robots were the main attraction, though. Lexy and Tess pole danced on stage to the delight of passersby and got the attention of a few adults. There were robots for kids. Then came RoboThespian, a life sized robot with near perfect speech gave the opening statement and introduction to German Chancellar Angela Merkel and British Prime Minister David Cameron to the assembled crowds. There were cooking robots, life saving robots and robots like Charlie who could do dangerous work humans would not attempt.

This year the talk and buzz will be about the $19B price tag payed for WhatsApp.

Prime Minister David Cameron announced that he would be funding a 5G project in the UK after recently completing a 4G network upgrade countrywide. The new 5G network would permit speeds in the Gigs per second range wirelessly.

New and faster chips from Intel.
